I know a lot of people have gone down the business path on their way to FIRE. I love business…but not all the entrepreneur porn that is out there.
I love un-sexy business, and here’s one I have been pondering.
I live in a semi-rural area that is about 50 minute out of a major capital city.
Most properties are multiple acres and run solely off tank water. And it’s been dry the last couple of years!
Water trucks are popular in the dry season and one bloke I spoke to said in the peak he was doing 14 jobs a day, 6-7 days per week.
He charges $130 for 9,000 litres (last’s about 6 weeks).
That’s up to $1,820 per day or $10,920 per week (6 days).
Now the downside is you need a $50k – $100k water truck and in the wet season the work dry’s up…so to speak.
So I know what I would do in the wet season.
I’d start a mowing/lawn care business.
As I said, there are large multiple acre blocks and they need mowing every 1-2 week’s when it’s wet.
Now you have work most the year and you can cross-promote your businesses.
What’s some other un-sexy business that people love?23/09/2020 at 9:03 pm #678LumberJackKeymaster
Great post Maverick, It’s crazy how good some old school business can be when everyone is preoccupied with the flash tech startup culture. I’ve been investigating the equipment rental business. After x number of hires, the product is paid off and the rest is profit. Possible something that can be operated on the side too.
